Goodbye Mrs Homer!

Today is Mrs Homer's last day at Kilsby School.

She has been helping out at our school for 3 years firstly as a volunteer classroom helper then as a Teaching Assistant. She is leaving to start a new job at Crick Primary School.

During an assembly on Thursday 19th October, the children and staff thanked her for all her hard work and support during her time with us, where she was presented with a bouquet of flowers and a card.

We all wish Mrs Homer all the very best in her new job, we will miss her.

KS2 Rugby Tournament at Weedon

On the afternoon of Wednesday 18th October a team of Key Stage 2 children from Kilsby took part in a Rugby Tournament at Weedon against other schools in the iMAT.

The children played really well, with a great sporting attitude, we are so proud of them.  They came second in the Tournament, which is fantastic!  A big thank you to all the parents who came along to support their children, it is much appreciated.

Here are some photos taken during the afternoon:

Maple Class trip to Twycross Zoo

On Monday 16th October Maple Class spent the day at Twycross Zoo.

They had a brilliant time finding out all about the animals and birds they saw there. During the day the children made notes about each animal/bird and whether they might be vulnerable and could possibly become extinct.

The children had an hour's talk about extinction, where they learnt about the animals and birds close to becoming extinct if nothing is done to help them.  Also they had a slideshow about global warming, and the ways in which they can help by simply switching off lights etc.  They stroked the skin of a silver fox, stroked a cockroach, were shown the skull of a rhino and also a snake skin, it was so interesting!

Here are some of the photos taken during the day:

Year 5 Bikeability

This week the children in Year 5 have been taking part in  Bikeability cycling sessions run by Northamptonshire County Council.

The first day’s training (Level 1) took place on the school playground and  they were taught how to control and master their bikes.  Then during the following 3 days (Level 2) the children took their bikes out for on-road experience in residential traffic in Kilsby.

At the end of the course we hope that the children will have learnt some valuable skills and will continue to enjoy cycling as confident, considerate and careful cyclists when out and about on the roads.

They have really enjoyed these few days.

Goodbye for a little while!

Yesterday we said good bye to Mrs Sensecall and Mrs Connolly just for a little while whilst they go and have their babies. We enjoyed giving them gifts, and guides from the children on how to look after a baby! We're all very excited and can't wait to meet their little ones. Good luck both of you!

Harvest Festival

On Tuesday 3rd October all the children and staff went to St Faith's Church, Kilsby for the Harvest Festival service.   Rev Nigel led the service, and the children sang some harvest songs, read some harvest readings and prayers, then after the service everyone came back to school for coffee and cakes, the money raised was put towards Andy Martin's fund raising for Parkinsons.

All the children brought beautiful harvest gifts to school before the service and during the afternoon these were distributed around the village of Kilsby to some of the elderly residents.  We have already received some thank you letters from the villagers!
